Bicycle Commuting

Bicycle commuting

Bicycle commuting is the use of a bicycle to travel from home to a place of work or study — in contrast to the use of a bicycle for sport, recreation or touring.

Commuting especially lends itself to areas with relatively flat terrain and arrangements to keep riders relatively safe from the hazards of accidents with motorized traffic, e.g. separated bicycle lanes and a general acceptance of cyclists as traffic participants.

As a rather cheap means of transportation as well as physical exercise at the same time, bicycle commuting offers potential health, economic and quality of life benefits — offsetting potential risks and inconveniences including limitations to travel distance, security risks, increased travel time, safety risks, impact to personal hygiene, exposure to inclement weather and load carrying limitations.

Bicycle features that enhance commuting include racks or panniers for storage, battery or dynamo-powered lights for increased visibility, mudguards or fenders to minimize the impact of inclement weather, a chain guard to protect clothing, and an upright sitting position for increased visibility.

Orang darat suka bertandang,
Sambil bertandang membawa cangkul,
Berapa berat mata memandang,
Berat lagi bahu memikul

Air keruh telaga keruh,
Air di kendi membasuh kaki,
Tuan jauh saya pun jauh,
Sama kita menahan hati.

Rujukan dari laman DBP Malaysia

Gunung Lingga berkarang-karang,
Gunung beratur empat-empat,
Abang gila saya tak larang,
Asal tentu dengan tempat.

Band of MTB Riders

Band of MTB Riders

[From Band of MTB Riders Facebook description]
The trail is a relatively short trail approx 1.2 km. It is designed wide enough to ensure the safety of beginner riders, and at the same time, requires a high technical ability of an expert rider. The trail incorporates a variety of climbs and descend of steep and moderate slopes. A number of technically challenging switchbacks or hairpin turns that demands a high concentration of balancing your weight while on your bike. Best of all, riders will have to be on extra alert avoiding trees and difficult angled turns that requires a good feel for braking control through out the whole trail. Adjoining the trail, there is a dedicated area for basic dirt jump and free ride area.

Bombers trail is being maintained on a voluntary basis by every bombers member. While they welcome everyone to come and share this little trail with them, they ask the responsibility of keeping the trail clean and free from trash or food leftovers as it would only attract wild animals onto the vicinity of the bombers trail. They would like to invite everyone in the MTB community to tryout their trail and on behalf of everyone at the Band of MTB riders, they wish you a great ride at the MTB park.

Notes:
Article about the trail can be read here. The location map of the trail can be refer here and here.

Ride for a Cause: Hari Raya & National Day

Ride for a Cause: Hari Raya & National Day

Hari Raya (in Malay language), also called Eid ul-Fitr, Eid al-Fitr, Id-ul-Fitr, or Id al-Fitr (Arabic: ‎عيد الفطر ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr), often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity," while Fiṭr means "breaking the fast". The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month Shawwal.

Muslims are commanded by God in the Qur'an to complete their fast until the last day of Ramadan and pay the Zakat al-fitr before doing the Eid prayer.

National Day is a designated date on which celebrations mark the nationhood of a nation or non-sovereign country. This nationhood can be symbolized by the date of independence, of becoming republic or a significant date for a patron saint or a ruler (birthday, accession, removal, etc.). Often the day is not called "National Day" but serves and can be considered as one. The National Day will often be a national holiday.

Some countries have more than one National Day. This signals the use of a ”class” of National Days, that are equally important in the foundation of the nation, and a ”class” of less important official public holidays. Importance attached to the National Day as well as the degree to which it is celebrated vary greatly from country to country.

Most countries have a fixed date National Day, but some have movable dates. National days can be categorized in two large blocks:

- Newer countries that celebrate their national day as the day of their independence.

- Older countries that use some other event of special significance as their national day.
Denmark and the UK are among the few countries which do not have designated national days.

Tua tapi Muda

Tua tapi Muda

Nangka panjang lagi tangkainya,
Dari budak baik orang tua,
Orang tua panjang akalnya.

Kelapa muda muda juga,
Kelapa tua dibuat inti,
Suka suka juga,
Sembahyang kita jangan dihenti ...
